Knowing what information is in your credit report is important in the home purchase process. 

Request copies of your credit report and score BEFORE applying for a mortgage.  By requesting your credit reports annually you can be sure that your credit history is correct and help protect yourself against credit card fraud.

New Jersey residents are entitled to one free report from each of the three credit bureaus per year.

Be sure to request your credit score, for which they charge a nominal fee.  Credit scores can give you an objective and quantitative means of understanding the condition of your credit.
